I have a Marlin pedal dated, 05/08/68, the diagram below is the way it is wired. Which is the amp side, also is this the way it was wired when built? The wire is a zip(think lamp cord)wire, using double strand, same color(grey), or is this an attempt at tone configuration? It works plugged in either way.
Also is it best to use solid wire, or is stranded best?

That's called a "rheostat hookup", and it was probably redone because it's the wrong way to wire a pedal. However, it does affect the tone rather drastically and I suppose some players may prefer it that way. I also suspect that Marlin didn't use lamp cord, although anything is possible - their stuff from that period was usually rather crude. As long as the wires don't move when you work the pedal either solid or stranded wire is fine. If you have a pedal where the wires move, then you should use stranded wire. For our purposes, there's no electrical difference at all between stranded and solid wire. |

Thanks Donny,
The wire looks to be the right gauge, but I have another pot so think maybe replace, and rewire properly.I can't tell a lot,if any difference in tone, I'm using a small amp with headphones for practice so it's not a big deal now,and it's a spare. I got it in a package deal at no extra cost. Thanks for your help.
