A friend spoke very highly of a CD he has and said the steel playing is great.
I have never heard of Jamey Johnson,I tried U tube and although I found several clips there was no steel player.
Anyone got any info?

"Cowboy" Eddie Long plays steel for Jamey. He plays a keyless BMI S-10. Before workin' with Jamey, Eddie had played steel for Hank Williams Junior and he also played steel for Kenny Chesney for five years and he played on a lot of Kenny's records. Eddie is actually the steel player on Jamey's record, "That Lonesome Song", and he's also Jamey's road steel player.

Robby plays steel on Jamey's song "In Color", while Eddie plays on every other song on the record. |

As everybody has said, that is Cowboy Eddie Long, and he plays a BMI Universal 12. Robby Turner is Eddie's Backup if he can't make it.
Robby Turner works for Shooter and subs for Cowboy if Cowboy is sick or can't make it. Robby is an awesome player in his own right.
Cowboy also recorded with Willie Nelson a few weeks ago. I'll post when that album is available.

I was at the show last night and was impressed by a couple things.
1. The very diverse crowd knew all the words (or faked it) to Jameys' tunes.
2. He played all the cuts on the new #1 cd plus others by Willie, Waylon, JR Cash, Sknynrd, Ray Price and others.
3. Cowboy is a great player! From hardcore country to jazz he plays his tail off and is very creative.
The stage was very small and in the wrong place for the room. He played his new blond BMI S12 thru a NV400, there was no room for his regular amp rig but it still sounded full bodied.
I don't know if corporate country radio will play more of his cd but they should.
I think Jamey is the messiah of country music today he deserves more than a quick listen from the suits.
He obviously has a musical conscience and loves steel guitar.

Brent was right concerning Robby Turner playing on In Color. Talked to Cowboy and he said he was sick the day of the recording.

I know both Cowboy and Robbie.....both are monsters when it comes to playing.....very tasteful in whatever they play.........

| Good Lord !!!!! I've heard a few cuts on XM recently and not paid much attention, but on Willie's Place (XM) today, they played his cut of the old Dave & Suger "The Door is Always Open" WOW. The steel was all over it, and a solo outro. I got on his website and am listening to more. Holy Moly !!! I was going to put a post on here, betting it was cut in South Central Texas ala, Detamore, Loessburg, Trevino, or Palusek's studios. I thought I better do a search before putting my foot in my mouth. Wrong, but it could have. I've listened to 2 cuts already and there is steel all over the outros, with a pure tone. I can't believe Nashville put this out AND it's getting some airplay. Says his label is Mercury. KUDOS to them !!!! It is really good. Give a listen... |
