Been listening to Jimmy tonight. I'm thinkin' maybe all the chicken pickin' credit that we've been giving Tele players, maybe we should lean on Jimmy Crawford. I almost beleive he was playin' that style on steel before they started it on the Tele. Course I'm a Jimmy Crawford nut. I think their is no better. ???????? Jump on, I've got broad shoulders, Doyle |

Jimmy showed me a speed lick and built my P/P with all the levers etc. that I needed to play it. That was in '77 and I still can't do what he did. He called me up one day and put on the Chicken Pickin' album and laid the phone next to it. He left it and forgot about me on the phone. I had to hang up and call him the next day to make sure he hung up his phone. |

Sonny, I know what you are talking about. I play his CD's more than anybody. For listening and learning, or stealing from him, whatever you want to call it. Ben, I can see that happening. What little I was lucky enough to be around him I think he was the funniest, most serious man I ever met. If that makes any sense. As far as his steel is concerned I've always said he played the tastiest, most commercial steel in the buisness, bar none. I think we all miss him, A Picken' Bro. |

Jimmy was a jewel. There was no end to his talent. I enjoyed working with him and just hangin' out. He was so funny. What a player he was. I miss him. Rest in peace "SCUTTER". Bobby |

I took a five day seminar with Jimmy back in 1981. There were only three of us there w/Jimmy in his studio. I learned a lot from him... and the stories! I wish I could repeat some of them on the Forum, but most of them are over the top!
His speedpicking rolls leading off with finger one boggled my mind for quite a while, but eventually they became part of my repertoire. Jimmy was a wonderful person, and he Loved the steel guitar, and he said so. One of the days I was there Jimmy had a session so he had John Hughey come in for the day. That was an amazing day. John's C6 playing was incredible. He was all over the C6 neck, and that was fun to see and hear. _________________ My Site / My YouTube Channel

Jimmie kicked me out of a pub!
Went to see Jerry Donahue and Jimmy crawford at the Bristol airport Lounge in Bristol England about 1992, I walked in, and i suppose by mistake the ticket man was not at the door, so i sat down by myself with my ticket in hand, Jimme sayes, I dont think the show is ready yet sonny, you might have to leave for a while! He went and got the door man, and told him to remove me for a short while,
Man.... was he good, a comedian too, phew!!! _________________ A.K.A Chappy. |

I really liked Jimmy's pickin'. One of my favorite performances at the ISGC every year was Jimmy and Russ Hicks. |
