My sister bought a 6-string National-Dobro lap steel at an auction, and from what I can determine, it is a "Princess" model made c.1942-1947. It has a string-through pickup, and the volume is almost non-existent on strings 4 and 6. String 4 polepiece does nothing for the volume, regardless of adjustment, and string 6 polepiece appears to be wedged, stripped, or broken. I read somewhere that swapping the magnets from side to side may remedy this, which I will try the next time she brings it by. Other than that, any other suggestions? It sounds pretty good on the strings that have volume. For reference, here is what it looks like:

Any other information anyone has about this instrument would be appreciated as well.

Thanks,

Bart
