Do any of the knowledgeable folks on the forum know what happened to Bobbie Thomas (Jr.), the whiz kid from Chicago who played incredible jaw-dropping guitar and steel guitar? He had a National signature model guitar in the 1960's and he and his dad performed together on WLS in Chicago going back to the mid-1950's.

His album features a fiddle player named Johnny Frigo, based out of Chicago.

In the 1970's he played on C.W. McCall's "Convoy" so he may have moved to Nashville to be a session musician...

A google search turned up absolutely nothing, so I'm hoping somebody here on the list will know his whereabouts.

Thanks!

There is a brief article/interview that Willie G. Mosely did on Bobbie Thomas that was published in Vintage Guitar magazine in December of 1990 and reprinted in his collection of articles "Stellas & Stratocaters". According to that, he was in Lost Wages at that time and was working with the aforementioned Mr. Wayne Newton. Hope that might be of some assistance!?

Best,

Julian

Well, sad to say, I found him:

Longtime fugitive gives up

Suspect in fraud case on lam since 1994

By CARRI GEER THEVENOT
REVIEW-JOURNAL

A former financial consultant for Merrill Lynch surrendered this week in Las Vegas after spending nearly a decade as a fugitive in a multimillion-dollar fraud case.

Attorney Karen Winckler said she accompanied Bobbie Thomas Jr. to the Clark County Detention Center about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

"He seemed like a nice man," Winckler said. She said Thomas was concerned about surrendering, but "he wanted to do it."

Winckler said Thomas retained her firm for the limited purpose of handling his surrender.

"A fugitive is a hard thing to be," the attorney said. "I mean, you can't be with your family. You can't have an ordinary life."

Thomas is scheduled to appear this morning in Justice Court for an arraignment. Winckler said a deputy public defender will represent him in future proceedings.

Authorities claim that Thomas and his wife, Janie, traded customer accounts without authorization and created false account statements to deceive their clients.

Janie Thomas billed herself as a broker to an elite clientele in the business and entertainment industries. Her husband acted as her assistant before their dismissal from Merrill Lynch's Las Vegas branch in September 1994.

The couple disappeared at that time, and the firm voluntarily repaid about $17 million to clients. Entertainer Paul Anka, one of the couple's clients, was reported to have received a $250,000 settlement.

Winckler said she does not know where Thomas has been since 1994. "I didn't talk with him about that," the attorney said.

She also said she does not know the whereabouts of Janie Thomas or whether the couple remains married. After the pair's disappearance, their vehicle was found near Los Angeles International Airport.

The Nevada attorney general's office is prosecuting the case, which involves numerous counts of securities fraud."

I'm assuming he must be in the pokey....

But thanks for your help guys!

Michael, we're playing Fresno on August 15th! Hope to see you.
