Hi John,
Wireless systems compress the signal and encode it to RF before transmission, then decode and then expand it at the receiver end before playback, the resulting loss of signal clarity and dynamic range coupled with the inherent latency of the compander system itself makes it pretty well pointless to run wireless unless freedom of movement is a major concern - the loss of response is quite noticeable.
SO, as very few steel players these days hop about the stage with their guitar very, VERY few ever fool around with a wireless signal chain. |

As Dave says, I can't see the point on pedal steel. Most of us sit down anyway, and the compander does affect the signal noticeably. There is other noise reduction on some of them, and none of this helps the signal fidelity. On distorted guitar it may not be quite so critical, but I want clarity in my pedal steel signal.
I used to use wireless units for guitar when playing rockabilly, blues, or the like. But I was going out to do crowd walks and such. Used to have a long (50-75') cord, but that also degrades the signal some and isn't as convenient as a wireless. |

If you are going to use a wireless at all- make sure you get a good one. THe cheap 300$ ones stink. I would suggest a higher end sennheiser unit if you are going wireless. _________________ Adam Sorber

Just one question: WHY?
It compromises your signal
It is an extra piece to haul
(I'd much rather carry a cable than a wireless transmitter and receiver)
You won't be moving around stage
