I recently did a session with John Beland, former Flying Burrito Brother (name dropping? you bet!) for an artist from Norway by the name of Arny Egeland. We did two songs for an EP she is releasing and she's just posted them on her myspace page here:

The two songs I played on are Rodeo Eyes and Rosetta Knows, not sure about the third song, I think it was from a different producer, but it also has some nice steel, and it's more in your face.

Nothing on steel here that is gonna knock you out. John was very particular about what I played being 'simple', i.e. just fills and pads mostly, so I ended up leaving all the hot licks (both of them) at home. Still, I like the tunes, especially Rosetta Knows which has a nice 'Highway 101' sort of vibe. In fact Arny's voice reminds me a bit of Paulette Carlson.

Even though this was the kind of session where the producer (John) had some very specific ideas about what he wanted, (he sang some parts to me a few times) it was still a lot of fun, and when we got done we talked for about an hour and listened to music. He had some semi-bootleg Sneaky Pete stuff that just knocked me out. John was a super nice guy to work with, I had a blast.

A few days after Arny got some rough mixes, she emailed me thanking me profusely for what I considered some fairly pedestrian playing. She seems to be a really sweet girl, and John told me the record is already getting airplay in Norway. It sure was great working with talented and NICE folks. Smile
