Love this song. And this video which gives good quality and quantity(!) PSG footage. Who's playing?

And say what you will about using that volume pedal for swells, it works really well for this song. Agree, or no?

The part works for me, I think it fits very well.

Not a tune for hot licks.

The singer songwriter types I have worked with like these kinds of steel parts, makes the phone ring...

Isn't Eric playing with The Pretenders now?

Heywood is great. I play in a couple "alt country" bands and the band leaders have no clue who Emmons or Mooney are. Eric Heywood is where PSG starts and ends with them.

Eric is with the Pretenders now. Chrissie was interviewed on the radio over here. She mentioned that the steel had been removed from the American release of their latest single. Because it had steel, it would be categorised as `Country` and the `Rock` stations wouldn't play it. Weirdsville?

Arch.

I love the fact that steel has that kind of influence over the direction of a single. It proves to me the power of the instrument. Smile

thanks for the info. Heywood's playing reminds me of the kind of stuff Greg Leisz does.

If that isn't playing what the song requires, I don't know what is! Thanks for posting; anyone know what kind of steel that is? Williams?

I believe Mr. Heywood juggles touring and recording with Ray Lamontagne and the Pretenders both, also.

That's the type of song that I hate playing steel to, too many minors.

I find it very difficult to put fills and backing to these types of songs, and I always end up with a miserable sound, long whining minor chords, and long harmonics because I don't have the creativity to think of anything else Sad

I know what you're saying Richard. Tough to be creative in a song like that.

However, Eric pulls it off quite nicely. To my ears, that's exactly what was needed to enhance the singer's voice.

Having just recently heard the studio recording of the song, it seems Heywood is pretty much playing a part that was arranged for strings (a cello and a violin or two, I think).

the song is beautiful, both with strings and with psg. I'm partial to the psg version. go figure.
