Hello everyone. I would, first of all, like to say how thankful Billy and I are for a lovely venue like this that makes it possible for steel lovers and players to interact. Although we’ve never had much time for posting, we do, nevertheless, appreciate the Forum so much!
My main reason for posting today is to let you know about a prayer need for Buddy Charleton and his wife, Kay Lee. I know many of you know them personally. They have asked us to tell you that Buddy has been recently diagnosed with lung cancer and is currently undergoing chemotherapy which will be ongoing for several months.
He is tolerating the treatments quite well and is still teaching and playing his steel. His outlook is nothing but hopeful and he and Kay Lee have asked me to let you know that he understands that God is in control of this situation and they are o.k. with that. He is trusting Jesus Christ for his physical and spiritual needs.
The Charletons would have posted this themselves but are pretty overwhelmed at present and they have dial-up so doing anything online at this point is quite slow.
If you’d like to send a word of encouragement to them and let them know you are praying for them, the address is:
Buddy Charleton
13024 Orange Plank Road
Locust Grove, VA 22508
I will do my best to keep you posted with updates.
Many blessings to you all!
Wanda Cooper

Thank you Wanda. Our prayers go out to Buddy and his family. IMO they are just wonderful people; I believe that his wife used to take care of orphaned wild animals in her spare time. May I ask if a benefit is in the works? |

Buddy,
You will be in our thoughts and prayers. May the Great Physician place His healing hands upon you.
One of the events that triggered my really wanting to play steel guitar was your intro and solo on "Another Bridge to Burn" on the 'Country Dance Time' Texas Troubador album. Had to go listen to it again just now!
Wanda, thanks for letting us know and for sharing the great photograph.
Take care,

Buddy Charleton is the single reason I ever started trying to play the steel guitar. My prayers are for a full recovery or complete remission. |

Wanda, Please let Buddy know that My wife and I will be praying for him as will the Arklahoma Steel Guitar Club. We have our monthly meeting this weekend and I will ask the members to say a prayer for him and his wife. I enjoy Buddy's playing and the lessons he has written with Billy are greatly appreciated.

Buddy is in my prayers. I'm a cancer survivor (two years now) and although a different cancer I can associate with what he is going through.
Buddy is one of my inspirations to take up pedal steel. |

Oh my...
Buddy has always been one of my absolute favorite players. I've taken a few lessons from him years ago as well, and I remember having a tremendous amount of fun interacting with a great guy while my mind was blown from new ideas.
I wish nothing but the best for Buddy and Kay Lee. _________________ "...An admission of interest in protracted commentary is certainly no reason to capitalize on surmised aberations that do not exist." - BH |

Wanda -
Please let Buddy know our prayers are with him. Buddy Charleton is one of the main pro players I met in the mid 60's at Cain's Ballroom in Tulsa, OK., who most inflenced me to attempt pedal steel. His tone, touch, technique and soul was and still is of the utmost!
We are praying for your recovery.

My prayer is for a speedy recovery for Buddy. God is in control. I have had two bouts with cancer and have recovered. So prayer does work. I use to see and hear Buddy play on Saturday nights with the Kountry Krackers Band in Virginia. A great player and a great person. MAX STUCKEY |

Wanda....... Tell Buddy that our prayers are with him for Streangh and peace through this time. Also for his wife, and any other family members. I wanted to plan a trip down your way to do a one on one with Buddy. I am still going to do that, because I know Jesus is the Great Healer. God Bless ya Buddy.
