A buddy has one of these for sale, 73/74 Silver Face 100 watt Fender Twin, it has 2x JBL D-120F "Orange Back" speakers that were supposedly upgraded at the factory when it was purchased and all original. I don't know much about guitar-amp speakers but I know a lot of you guys do! He tells me it's the first year of the "pull out master volume". All I know is it sounds real good. My question is, is this amp worth $1200? It's local and theres no shipping involved.

Hi Ben
I Got one just like that in 74 and
used it on the road for 10 years ( when I was young)
It was a great amp. Wish I could still pick one up .
As for value I would think thats pretty close. But then I haven,t priced or used fender amps in years.
ymmv. Regards Neil

$1200 is high, but those JBL equipped Twins do bring a premium.. There is a big substantial in price between a 68 w JBL's and a 73-74 w JBL's for super clean Twins.. I would say the amp is a few hundred overpriced, but if its real clean and its what you want, it may be a decent deal. Its a master volume amp, and they are always worth less than a non master amp. That being said, it will be a great steel amp!

'72 was the first year of the master volume for the Twin, and the tail came off the logo shortly after that, '74 I believe. The one pictured here does not have the tail logo, so I'd say it's a '74.

It's fairly subjective, but if I had the opportunity to buy it locally, I'd pay a grand for it with those JBLs, providing they were in good shape and not beat out. But I'd pay no more, and try to get it for less. Put it this way: If those JBLs were Oxford blues, the amp would be worth about $700. Great steel amp, though, for sure.

We are headed up to Raleigh, NC today to pickup a new electronics workbench for the shop. Just checking Craigslist there ans saw this 1968-1969 (gas the metal grill frame) Twin with JBL speakers for 850.00!! Maybe that would be a good one for you

There was a late 60s Twin with the orange JBLs for $900 on Craig's List in Seattle a few months ago. Don't know the condition.

1200 could be slightly high. But it looks quite clean and a good cabinet is worth something. Best is to play it and ask yourself if you want that sound. If yes buy it. Its a big advantage to see it and hear it. I had one of that vintage and played a Guitorgan through it. It was a very full sound and had a ton of headroom. I'd buy it. al

Update on this, me and this guy didn't quite see eye to eye. So he gets to keep his Twin. I reckon he'll sit on it for a while. I had one similar to this, I liked running it with a steel king, Sounded wonderful!
