I now have 2 home made steels (lap & acoustic) This is a pretty basic question but before I make changes I would just like a bit of confirmation. Scale on both is 24.5 inches. The string spacing on one is bang on 3/8 inches. The other varies on some strings 1/16 to 1/32 inches. I get better sounding and easier slants on the one with regular spacing. I think I answered my own question - re-do the nut & bridge.

Since you are making your own, I would suggest parallel strings to help with slants. It helps on the longer scales.
