My question is I have a 1501-4 speaker that is not blown but it just doesn't sound right to me.
I have cleaned out the mag groove with a business card and every thing seems to be ok, I mean it looks OK.
If I don't see any burnt wire or distortions in the basket.
Does this mean it's ok or is there something else I can check before I replace the basket or magnet with a neo mag??
It currently has the medimum sized magnet (BWX) with no spider web.
I tested the amp by putting in a Peavey JBL from my Session and it sounds good.
Thanks

If you're sure there is no deteriorated material in the coil gap and no rips in the cone, tears in the surround material, could be the voice coil is just bad. One other thing you might try is rotating the basket to a different place on the magnet. Probably won't help, but something to try. Just make sure the coil and gap are really clean.

BTW, I defer to Mike Brown, but I don't think the BWX is the right magnet for the 1501. Are you sure about the model?

What doesn't sound right about your speaker? Are you hearing a rattle, distorted sound?

Poor tone at playing volume, not to bad at low volume.
Yes I question the BWX magnet, it is mid sized...
As with most things there are several opinions on magnets affecting tone..
I may try a Peavey Neo magnet as I have found a good deal and price for them.
Hopefully someone will chime in.
Thanks
