I recently acquired this amazing Fulawka U12 and have used a bit of my "social distancing" time to get it tuned to my copedent and to make it fit my long legs.
So far, so good. I have it switched up, and even managed to rig up a split on the 6th string lower with an extra pull rod. It plays very smoothly, precise feel, and great tone.
I am curious first if anyone might have an idea of the age of this steel. It appears to have older versions of headstock and endplate design but I am unsure of when these changes might have been made.
I am also interested in advice on further maintenance and upkeep. Though the changer and mechanism are working great, there are some pretty good sized gobs of old lubricant in the changer and in many other spots under the hood. Would in be in my interest to take the changer\etc out and do a cleaning? Am I best to leave well enough alone? A few years ago I did a changer removal and de grease on an MSA SS so I have accomplished this successfully before.
Finally, if or when I take it apart, would it be wise to try to drop fill some of the lacquer that has chipped (from over tightening or a drop??) or might it be best to leave well enough alone? I don't mind a few dings on the body but it might be nice to tidy it up a bit.
Thanks in advance. I have learned so much from the forum and appreciate all opinions. |

Check out Stewart Mcdonald's advice section for touching up lacquer, etc. I thinks it's worth doing. I consider that maintenance.
BTW, I believe there's a episode of "How it's made" on the learning channel about Fulawka PSGs. Probably posted somewhere on line. |

Eddie was like a mother hen when it came to his guitars.
I bought a D-10 Fulawka and I wanted to add some more things to it.
I contacted Eddie and he thought I should send it back to him to have the work done.
I convinced him that I was capable of doing the work myself and he did send me the parts.
What a guy!!
