John Hughey is my all time favorite player. He knew how reach into your heart and put chills in your spine with his beautiful high end intonation, known better as "Hugheyland". What a great talent! I tried to reproduce a little of it in this clip. It's a hard thing to do.

Wow! I say thanks to you guys, as I wasn't expecting this response. John Hughey was such an inspiration for me while I was growing up in Pecos, Texas picking with Tommy Hooker and Hoyle Nicks and his son Jody in San Angelo and Big Spring and the Arkansas Travelers in Wink, Texas. I tried to learn and feel what John Hughey did for his audience. I remember hearing him live with Conway in a 4 piece band in Waco in 1973. It was simply amazing. It was fantastic to see such wonderful history being made right before me. Play on my friend!!

Very nice Danny.

And that Emmons sounds great.
What pickups do you have on there?

What color is it? I can't tell in the picture.

Bill, I sincerely appreciate your comment. It is an honor. You’re such a fine player and I know you and John were good friends. I was there in St. Louis in ’96 when John was inducted. Vince came in and mingled with the crowd all day and was there for his buddy. The house went wild when John & Vince did “Look at Us” that night. Vince smiled and said, “I hired me a real steel player”. He was so proud of John.

That Emmons is my brother’s guitar. It is a green LeGrande with Emmons single coil pickups. I was visiting my brother Ron Kirby in Nashville when I did the video using that guitar and his Evans amp. That guitar does have a nice tone. We always try to get together when we can. Thanks again Bill and I hope to see you sometime soon.

Thank you Mark! Next time I get up to my brother's place in Nashville, we'll try to get another video or two made. No, we don't have any relatives in New Mexico. They are all in either southeast Texas, Tennessee or North Carolina. Take care.
