Anyone have any experience/knowledge with this little Peavey 5w tube amp, the Royal 8? Seems like it has good headroom. I would be using it for lap steel playing blues at home, so I don't need to worry about gigging with it.

I picked up one of these a couple of months ago very reasonable when a store was closing them out. Typical single-ended class A type of sound, pretty ratty like a Tweed Champ. I actually prefer it to the Epi Valve Juniors I've tried, which I think are also fine. Seems like a pretty cool little slide/lap amp. Haven't used it out yet.

As far as "headroom" goes, I wouldn't say it has much "clean headroom before distortion". But I don't expect that in a 5W single-ended amp like this. To me, if it sounds good for the application, it is good.
