We are all in shock, disbelief, and mourning for "Our Pal" Rick Alexander......and it won't be anytime soon to come to emotional terms with this unfortunate event......
I know it's very soon to ask this question.....however, this was Rick's "baby" and I believe that he would want us to continue and to carry the torch.....and I believe that we should honor his memory by doing so.....
I don't know what the details of the arrangements (with regard to the room) were and I don't want to assume anything on that end......I know that Rick brought his own equipment, advertised, arranged the musicians....etc....and those are some big boots to attempt to fill....but to not try, and to not continue,....would be a diservice IMO.......
I humbly suggest that we think about this, get together.....and lay out a plan.....
I also suggest that we name future non pedal events......The Rick Alexander Non Pedal Sessions (or the RA Non Pedal Sessions).....
your thoughts and opinions please...... |

I was really looking forward to making it to the next show and I had discussed it with Rick and it was a go.
Now, I'm not sure. I imagine it would take a Herculean effort to do what Rick did, but the one good thing is this: it's Texas and there's no shortage of musicians, music gear and big hearts. _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links |

The collective talent, intelligence, and drive of our community has always amazed me.....I think that if we got several people together, write out a well organized plan, maintained the contacts, use creativity and ingenuity......we can continue the success....I will volunteer my services, for whatever I can do to keep the faith.....
Is that not what Rick would want us to do? |

anything that I can do to help that is within my means please let me know. I think that Rick would want us to still do it and celebrate the gathering of all of our steel guitar brothers and sisters. |

Let's all put our noggin's together and come up with a way to keep the non-pedal session on. It would be a good way to honor the memory of Rick. |

The last time I saw him in person was April...a month after the Dallas show. He was so excited about next year's TSGA non-pedal session. We were going to expand the room to accommodate more. And he almost had a full roster of players and special events for the entire weekend. We were even talking about future sessions. Rick's goal was to have everyone come together for a good time, enjoying and celebrating non-pedal steel music. He put so much effort into those shows.
Howard, I too feel it would be a disservice to him to let it die too. I will do all I can to help it continue. The RA Non-Pedal Sessions need to continue...it's what HE would have wanted.
But you're right...filling his boots is impossible. Rick was a great organizer, planner, and he brought it all together. He told me on the way back this year, that it's better if one guy runs the show. But that' a big commitment, and takes as special guy...and that ONE guy is no longer with us.
I'm all for trying...Howard, Mike, Tony...let's put our heads together and seriously consider it. I know some information of the plans already. Email me and let's see if we can't put this in motion...
...For Rick. |
