Somewhat by accident I caught Joshua last night on the PHC broadcast from L.A. with kd lang. kd was excellent and Joshua sounded absolutely primo. The mix was sort of funny with a combination of some vocals and instruments being ultra upfront and dry and others being more properly balanced. But no complaints about the steel---totally good sound. And really nice tone.
What's your rig, JG? That clearly wasn't the Fender.
Nice job.
btw---did you double on the bari guitar? |

Jon,
No, definitely not the Fender...! That was the Sho-Bud Pro I through a few effects into a Deluxe Reverb amp.
I was using a little reverb from a TC pedal, and some delay through an Akai Headrush pedal, finally out through a Z Vex Super Hard On pedal.
I changed strings a few hours before the show and forgot how good new strings sound...! I figured being lazy wasn't a good enough reason to break a string during a radio show.
It was a LOT of fun, a beautiful day at the Greek Theater that started with rain early in the day and ended with a glorious cool So Cal evening.
The house band was great, such nice guys, and wonderful musicians.
The sax/mando/violin player Andy Stein knew all about pedal steel, its history, tunings. I was very impressed.
And yes, I was playing Bari too. Love that thing.
Hi Rick! |

Andy ought to know a little about steel guitar, having worked with Bobby Black for a while. |

You sounded great with kd, Joshua.
The band's arrangements were, I thought, unusually fine, and your parts on steel and baritone excellent and tasteful.
Would you mind describing the signal chain and equipment you use for baritone guitar? |

Jerry,
Andy was talking some about Bobby Black that night. Fascinating.
Andrew,
I used the same chain for the baritone, just unplugged the cord from the steel and plugged it into the bari. Couldn't be easier! |

Hello joshua, Im sitting here in New Zealand listening to Dwight singing Only You, off the Dwight sings Buck album, and im just in heaven listing to your steel playing, Man you are just awsome, Having been a Telecaster slinger for many years i have just taken up the Steel guitar, i started on a Sho Bud pro2 custom which i was lucky enough to purchase from a freind of mine here in New zealand, I have since sold that guitar and just purchased a Rains SD10, I was wondering if you do Tab stuff for other learners at all, I know you must be one busy guy but would be so kool to know if you do such tabs. thanx for the sweet sounds, cheers Des hetherington, _________________ Rains SD10 4 pedals 5 Levers, webb 614E,Goodrich Vol |
