I have had some email request so I thought I'd post some photos of the new BMI "Cowboy" Eddie Long model.
These were taken at my house before delivering to Cowboy before the ACM Awards...

Now that I like. I'd have got the one that raises on the right and lowers on the left however. I love the southwest inlay. |

Cowboy really likes this one. We had to build it especially heavy duty for cowboy because he so hard on a steel guitar.

Tn a few years ago.Actually several years. Granted the Super Pros were know for Pot metal mounts. Dan the steel looks great. |

Cowboy Eddie Long may be soley responsible for putting steel guitar back in the fore front of modern country music. The musical arrangements with Jaimie Johnson (he plays with Jaimie) feature Eddie Long predominently in both the arrangements and the mix. He IS the lead instrument for Jaimie Johnson. His BMI guitar cuts right through the mix and sounds great. |

I took a couple cell phone pics at sound check and at the show last night.
There was some serious steel picking going on and it was hot in the mix.

I neglected to say that when Cowboy severed my LkL
he was smokin it up with hot licks. One of the guys
in my store was listening to some cuts off a cd called Goin to Church by Buddy Church of Memphis. He
asked me to listen to the steel man and I said that's Cowboy. The got the sleeve to check it out.

Bill,
email me your cell phone number please.
Bo,
Thanks for the shots.
Kevin,
Glad you liked the concert and thanks for the kind words.
John,
Here you go but take off the compentsators. Those were just for expermenting. Cowboy is not using them. Here is his copedant.
Chuck,
Cowboy is the roughest player I know. Anybody that can break a Sierra while playing, well that is saying a lot. He is one of the best all around players I've ever heard,

How much does this steel weigh? Those end plates & corners look especially beefed up!
One other question, what kind of rig was he using at Murphy's Nightlife in Florence, SC? It appeared to be a couple power amps and some effects. It looked like he kept tweaking a small mixer on top? If he was playing through a Nashville 400 like above I sure didn't see it. I couldn't get real close, it was wall to wall. Here's a blurry pic, Had to zoom in.

I played one of those Universal 12 BMI for years, good playing Steel and great sound.
Don is still making a great steel.
Eddie picked a good color combination, I like the inlaid.
Dan you should have called me over to see it, we're 12 miles apart. ha ha

Hey Donny,
I think Kevin was referring to the way Cowboy is mixed way up front through the entire Jamey Johnson cd. The steel is the primary lead instrument on almost every tune and he gets to noodle his way thru to the next song.
When compared to the usual nashville production this is a whole different deal. The cd sounds like it was intended to be a demo (a very good one) with string noise, comments, extra picking Etc.. Compared to what it usually costs to produce a master session, this is an example of what can be done with new digital gear, a good band, great tunes, and open minded producer. |

That's quite alright Bo, I just thought I missed something important! I realize that Eddie's "up front" style may not be the norm, but with Kevin's glowing comment, I thought he might have done back-to-back performances on Letterman and Leno or something.
There's several singers with steelers that do this "up front" style today. (Jake Hooker, Justin Trevino, Miss Leslie, and Curtis Potter come to mind.) It's good to hear it from anyone, but we have to accept it'll never be the "Nashville norm" again. |

you don't 'have to' accept it...obviously you won't be helping change it with that attitude.... |
