Capo on a steel isn't such a crazy idea! Check out this Charley Pride video of Lousiana man. His steeler totally has a capo on there. Nails all those open strings. I'm certain Lloyd Green did it the same on the original recording... Cool effect.

Was that Lew Houston on steel with Charley Pride? Kinda looks like Conways first band members! Ray

I use a glass test tube. Had it for over 30 years and kept it safe by keeping it in an aluminum cigar tube.

Ever use the behind-the-bar harmonics? Works great in E, or C depending on which neck...But not so well if the song changes key or was in G to begin with. Enter the kapo. Slip it under the strings at the 3rd fret and now you are in G and those etherial harmonics ring through beautifully.

Back in the 70's, I used a spare tone bar as a capo. It was just the right diameter. I'd seen some pro doin' that, so I tried it, and it worked very well. Just slipped it under the strings. It had mass, so the sound wasn't thinned out.

This has been discussed before. That "appears" to be one of those Shubb Dobro bars turned upside down under the strings. I'm sure it would require some retuning. He sounds a little out of tune in that video. Works good for some open licks tho.

Philip,

How wide, and high, are the strings on an S10?
