Link to auction on eBay.

It has a buy-it-now price of $500.

Obviously, the coveted pickup is missing but that big hole means you can install any type of pickup without worrying about routing.

Opinions?

I'd say for $300-400 might be somewhat of an ok deal. There's a couple of guys that could build you a horseshoe pickup. It looks like the original pickup mounting plate is still there so you could fix er up. But without a horseshoe, it's just another lap steel.

It also has a fabricated chrome plate. I would stay away from it period.

Ok. Should I stay away from it because it won't have great resale value or because the tone is not worth the cash? I'm not a collector, I buy players. I'm just always reading about how coveted these steels are and I can't believe it's %100 about the pickup. I've tried many different pickup combinations on different materials (aluminum and wood) and I find that the material is the most important thing. If you can get a good sound unplugged, it's just a matter of trying different readily available pickups.

"it's just another lap steel". I thought bakelite was the key to these things. Are you guys saying that putting the original pickup on any old lap steel body would make a great instrument?

How is the sustain and tone of the bakelite body? I'm kinda broke now and am just curious.

I guess it really depends on how much you want to spend on it. IMO $500 is too much. Without the horseshoe it will never be a Rick.

It's a shame about the pickup. I wouldn't spend $500 on it, no way. This guitar has basically been trashed, IMHO.

These are currently selling for 1-2k in beautiful original condition. These steels break quite easily. So, I think this steel is worth the sum of its parts.

Four original metal plates.
Metal logo with original screws.
Original tuners.
Neck
Body

These parts are impossible to find when you're looking for one of them. What would these individual parts be worth to someone performing a restoration? I would guess at least $500.

So, I don't think you have much to lose even @ the BIN price.

If you're kinda broke right now, then fight the feeling to buy this thing. It's not worth it.
