This is my early Model Custom D10 project
I am in the process of giving this pedal
steel an overhaul". I have already had it
stripped Down a few years back sanded and
refurbished the wood and refinshed it.
now I am in the process of having it over
hauled as far as any parts it needs etc .
it will need quite a few like knee levers
fret boards and a new toggle switch and
many other things that it needs ! I have
talked to Bill Simmons about this overhaul
but I will need a case to ship this steel
with because it doesn't have one and I just would feel alot better if it was shipped in a case I don't want it Damaged ! I have had it since 1988 and I
bought it used from Lloyd Whitley in
Norwood NC he said that he and someone else helped build this steel or had it blt
I think that Leonard Staler was the won
that built this steel it has some of the
same carricteristics as the Marlen steels
it is built like a Tank and has a lot of
chrome parts end plates etc . if anybody
has any info about this steel let me know
it has no name on it hasn't had one on it
since I bought it in 1988 and Lloyd said
it never had one on it when he owned it !
this steel used to have some really nice
and unusual fretboards on it they were
arrowheads the were turquise red yellow
each one was colored individualily !
I would like to find some more like them
or have someone make me some more ! this steel has been talked about here on the forum before I became a member. but this
is the first time I have brought it out
and am talking about it and publishing
some pics and info that I know about the
steel. it is a one of a kind I haven't
seen another really like it ! origanily
it came with 8
floor pedals & 4 knees and
have all the floor pedals but some of the
knee levers have got broken and come apart
I guess it is from age and the material
that they were made of. but if anybody
recognizes this style of steel let me know
because I would like to learn more of the
Back ground and History !

I meant to say also if anybody has a case
that will fit this steel let me know I
need one Bad ". the measurements are as
follows! 33 3/4 inches long end plate to
end plate & 12 1/2 inches or more in width
from end plate to end plate. and the thickness or height is 5"inches from bottom to top from right to left . this means that it will have to be a pretty big
sized case for this steel !

David,
Contact Fred Justice, or Thomas cases with the dimensions for a case.Justice lists their case for $229. Your guitar looks a lot like a Marlin, do the pedals have a checked design on the top/contact area? That is a Marlin design, also the markers on the fretboard are musical staff symbols, and are multicolored. Hope this helps...Bill

Edited to say...that is the musical staff symbol design fretboard pictured.

Hello Bill I appreciate the info about
my steel ". This has helped me learn a
little more info about the Marlen steels".
I don't really know if this is really a
Marlen but it sure looks like one to me !
I can't really say that it resembles any
other make of steel it is a very nice looking steel". I am going to overhaul it
and hope to be playing it by next month
or so! it plays very well when it is back
together at least it used to when I was
playing it years ago ! but this steel is
very heavy also . Thanks David Dellinger
