| I recently had a conversation with a longime friend Larry Pouncey ( his Dad played Pedal Steel Guitar )and he stated that he knew Billy Mize from way back when . He told me that Billy played a triple neck Steel guitar , does anyone have any information of what brand of Steel it was ? Pedals or None and what tunings he used ? I never even knew that Billy played Steel , , thank you ..... Keith Junot ... |

The Cousin Herb Henson Trading Post TV Show was broadcast live in Bakersfield on KERO Channel 10 from 5:00 TO 5:45PM from 1953-1963, when Herb Henson passed away from a fatal heart attack. Bill Woods, Billy Mize and Cousin Herb started this show. The broadcast signal was so powerful that the show could be viewed all the way up in Fresno, 105 miles to the North. It was extremely popular with many famous artists of the day who performed on the show first and then later that evening performed at The Blackboard Nightclub. Bill Woods was the promoter.

steel, Bonnie Owens singer and to her left is Al Brumley Jr., Tom's brother. I don't know the other two folks. Larry Petree, are you out there? |

The above link is a Skeets McDonald clip from the 50's with Billy Mize on the middle break. Unfortunately it does not show his steel. When the camera pans to Billy, Johnny Bond is the one playing the electric guitar. |

| Billy Mize was hot during my first sojourn in CA. He was an excellant steel man and guitar picker plus he could do about anything musically. I think if they would have put a caliopi on stage, Billy could have played it. cc |

| Yes Jussi, that looks like my Bigsby. Billy and I traded steels in 1957. I had a Fender three neck Stringmaster, with one pedal at the time. Great trade for me. Like all Bigsby's, it was a great steel. |

The man at the piano looks like ole Cousin Herb to me..although I sure see the resemblance to George French. You're probably right.
Some people don't seem to age at all. Larry Petree looks about the same as when that photo was shot. Hope to see you again soon Larry at Trouts. |

Jussi, yes, Rose Lee Maphis with husband Joe at the far right of the picture.
I would have let this pass but Joe was a wonderful friend of mine when he was in Nashville.
A nicer guy never held a guitar, he also play it quite well!

IMO, Billy played some good stuff for those days. You have to remember, Knee levers had not been invented yet. Billy was a good commercial player. He quit playing steel much and started writing and singing when he found out Steel Players Don't get rich with a very few exceptions.  |

| L.J. , Larry West was working here in town when i got here in 87 , he worked @ a club just a coupla blocks from where i was giggin . i would go see him on my breaks and he would come see us on his , often sitting in playing drums and singing , He is a great guy and a talented Musician . take care , Keith |

His Father Steel Guitarist " Carl West is in the History of Gold Star Recording Studios as a Session player.
