Great playing by Pete and all the boys. If that's a Sierra I'm seeing; I never heard one sound that good!

These Dave Peterson videos are fine indeed, and Pete sounds great. This one zooms in on the steel quite a bit better starting around 1:40 or so - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hDSjXDC8lZ4
I'm sure Pete can answer for himself, but it certainly looks like the black Sierra D-10 he was playing with Patty Loveless last fall - he and that guitar sounded great there also. Nothing wrong with a Sierra - like anything else - in the right hands. |

+2 on Pete Finney....WAY too unsung around here....One of my heros and first major influences. Gave me some of the best advice I ever got: "You really should go see Buddy Charleton....." _________________ Tommy Detamore

Thanks guys... Yes, it's one of the two D-10 Sierras I've been playing for years. At least they're black!
It's such a treat to play those gigs with Dave... of course I have to keep reminding myself that there IS no good country music in Nashville; I've read it here so many times I know it must be true! |

Pete,
Maybe some explaination is in order. There may be lot's of good country in Nashville, but if that's the case, they must want to keep it there. I don't think we'll hear the new Dave Peterson CD on country FM radio. I don't see the Nashville music industry promoting this style of country.
BTW: You're one of my favorite players. |

Do you think XM radio might play it?

Tony,
I would hope Willie's place would play it. I supposed like everything else, unless you're an established artist, you have to get in the click to get played. Most of the new artist they feature are out of Texas it seems. I don't recall hearing them play any new artist from anywhere else. I don't know what it takes to get in, but they play the best music on the airwaves today....my opinion anyway.
I think XM may have a channel for new music, but I can't get away from Willie's place long enough to listen to it.
I could probably get it played on the Sneedville radio station, except Sneedville doesn't have a radio station. You know Hancock County. HA HA. |

Thanks Rick,
By the way there is a radio station in Knoxville that plays David's CD, WDVX 102.9, they play a variety of "roots" music including classic country, and a lot of independent artists. Totally local and non-corporate, which is more than you can say for Sirius-XM, even if they do play a lot of great music. You should check it out...
http://www.wdvx.com/program_guide.html
I just played a Knoxville gig with David a few weeks ago, a free Saturday concert downtown on Market Square as part of the "Dogwood Festival". Just a trio; David on acoustic guitar (what a great rhythm player!) and vocals, upright bass, and steel; a lot of fun! The two local bands also had steel players...
As always there is a LOT more to Nashville music than the music that top-40 corporate radio typically plays, IMHO to confuse the two only gives the "crap" more credit than it deserves! |

Pete, I have to say I'm sorry but I've never heard of Dave before. I am definately a fan now. He has an awesome voice and of course as you know I'm already a big fan of yours.

I'm very familiar with WDVX. They play too much "way out there" music for me. However, they do play a lot of bluegrass and traditional country at times. My problem with WDVX is that, it seems to me, they want to use all the local talent for free to promote their cause, and when they have money to spend, we never see any of it.
Kind of like the church goers that pass up several homeless and hungry people on their way to church so they can donate to a missionary trip to Africa. |

Fair enough, Rick...
If that station were in Nashville I'd listen to it a lot... Not an all country station for sure! I've played their live lunch-time show and always enjoyed it. |

Pete,
The way you play is always welcome music to the ear, no matter what the situation. I wish I could do what you do. |

Thanks Pete. Great stuff as always.
They should embed this at the Sierra site. Sure to help sell a few. |
