where do you like to place your amp in a home setting ?

i have tried it right behind me , behind to the right /left and in front of me . it seems to sound a bit different in each location so where you you place yours ?

Calvin, like you I've tried movin' my amp around and as I use a second amp for my rhythm tracks when I practice I settled on steel amp on my right and slightly ahead with my rhythm amp on my left.

i play both my back up tracks and steel thru my nashville 400 . it just seems to mix well this way
( kinda sounds like the steel is part of the recording )

Depends on your ear and preference. I mic my amp most of the time for recording, and I'm playing a carter starter, so If the mic (SM57 or MD421) is anywhere close to my guitar, you can hear my pedals creaking and my very un-smooth footwork... I have to keep my amp at least 15' away from me when recording. When not recording, I usually put it about 5' in front of me tilted up at about a 30 degree angle with a lot of volume and reverb.

On my right hand side, tilted back about 40 degrees and right up against the legs of my pedal steel. I mainly have it there so that the controls are within reach.

AT Home its to my right about 4 feet if I use an amp. Sometimes I use a modeler
to play with tracks through a pa system. Live its just wherever thier is space unless the stage is big enough then back about 5 or more feet.

I like to put it as far away as possible. That way I get a little room tone and some natural verb. Also hides a lot of the scrapes and scratches I "occassionally" make.
