I've been doing a few dates from time to time with a singer/songwriter here in Austin by the name of Jerry Sires. He recently invested in a Roland digital recorder (2488 I think?) with the intent to do a live recording of his band at a venerable South Austin venue, Jovita's on South 1st, so back in December we did a gig there and Jerry recorded the evening. Jerry is definitely one of those guys who 'is what he is'.. no concessions to fad, so the band is pretty 'rudimentary', very traditional, but also really a lot of fun. I'm sure Jerry will probably have his CD for sale from his website in the next few weeks if anybody is interested. As with most live recordings I've ever done, I sure wanted a couple of the tunes purged due to extremely poor steel playing, but got outvoted .
This is a pic of the band outside Jovita's (note that this is one band where the steel player is NOT the oldest guy) and a couple of the tunes that have been mixed, and I think are fairly enjoyable... To me, this is pretty much what live music in Austin is all about, and I'm proud to play with these guys.
