Hi all,
I have been using a Pod X3 for a long time to get any kind of distortion I might need on those select tunes that have to have it. Now I'm using a Revelation Tube Preamp with a TCM-One as my effects unit. I've never been much for using distortion pedals, but it looks like that's my best option now. I did some reading and purchased an Ibanez TS9DX from guitar center earlier today. There were other pedals that had better marks from here on the forum, but they didn't carry them. I spoke to TC Furlong today and he had some good advice as far as where to put the box in the chain to maintain the benefits of the Rev. I also sent Brad Sarno an email, and he's always been great about helping out. Does anyone out there have a similar setup to mine who has some advice on good distortion boxes and the chain? I can take this one back to guitar center if it's not my best bet.
Thanks everyone, Jeff |

The best distortion box I've found for pedal steel is a Home Brew Electronics "Big D". It sounds much better with tubes than with a solid state amp, so I imagine The Revelation might work well with it. |

Jeff,
Since you're playing a PSG and looking for some distortion, my guess is that you want something on the MILD side. Digitech Bad Monkey is excellent and inexpensive. Very highly regarded.
If you go on their website, you can listen to clips of their various pedals.
They have 4 different clips for the Bad Monkey.
BOSS makes good OD/Distortion pedals too. Check them out too. |
