I'd also like to add my thanks to Jim Thompson and the gang for inviting me out to play the show this year. I had been hearing great things about this show for a few years already and it was all true! A great bunch of folks, well run and organized, super house band, and a great lineup of players, supported by an excellent sound crew. And I made a lot of new friends, so that all adds up to a really great weekend in my book. It was an honor to be among you for the weekend and I hope to return in the future.

Best wishes from 'Old Philadephia'
Jim
p.s. It was great to finally meet Tamara and Rudy and a bunch of other forumites too.

Wow what a great weekend. I’m totally exhausted but would do it all over again. I’m truly blessed to have gathered with such a great group of people over the weekend. There wasn’t one performer that I didn’t enjoy completely. My only regret is I was playing so much I didn’t get a lot of time to hang out. Actually with the performers that were there can’t really say there were any regrets. Met some new friends, Mike Jones and Mike Auldridge, both had great sets and I hope to see them at future show. What can I say about my band buddies? What an honor to play with such great players in the band, Linda Tory, Lonnie Cootes, Roger Hoard, and my best buddy Jim Hartley. Special thanks to the tech and sound crew especially Wayne Hartzler and Mike (the gopher) Meese. And Jim Thompson, my friend, what a great job! Really looking forward to the Hummingbird show this time next year.

I'm back !
Just got a little break between students and thought I'd post a little more about this great show.
Let me start with the staff . GREAT job ! I'm so used to doing the carrying and lifting so it was a great delight when I pulled up and 3 or 4 people were right there to load all my equipment in . And I don't just mean my steel, seat and amp .The entire van was loaded to the max. And when it was time to go,same thing . Absolutely wanted for nothing the entire weekend .
I'd like to use names but I'm afraid I'd leave someone out.So from the ladies out front, selling tickets, watching doors to the stage crew , you know who you are , THANKS !! Great job .
One last mention before I go for now . The sound was excellent ! Fantastic job by Wayne, Mike and the entire crew . No small task and you aced it !
More after a bit .....................RT

Back again !
Where to continue? I guess I'll start with my all time favorite player. No knock on all the great players cause I love 'em all. Herby Wallace has just been my favorite player since the first time I saw and heard him live .
As most of you know Herby suffered a stroke 3 years ago and has been working hard at regaining his control on the right side . What a difficult thing this must be . I can't imagine . Some of you may have experienced this in your life . But for the rest of us, we simply can't imagine .
Herby says he's at maybe 60% which for most of us is still 40% better than we are. I was so very glad to watch and here him play and see the level of ability coming back . I hadn't heard Herby since our show last April and although he did a marvelous job then , he's improved allot . On Sunday his arrangement and performance of "Slow Boat to China" had flashes of the "pre-stroke" Herby . Some pick rakes and speed highlighted the "Musical offering" as Herby called it . Keep it up Herby .
BTW...Herby's new album sounds great . Classic Herby tone and great selection of tunes . Pick it up and see for yourself . He's "Coming Back" !
All fo now . Gotta go . More later . RT

We just arrived back home after one heck of a vacation. I want to first off say thank you so very much to Jim Thompson for inviting me and Deb to perform on your show and a great big thank you to all the crew (including your lovely bride) for the hospitality and cheerful assistance which they gave to everyone who showed up this year. Mike Sigler, your performance was a thing of perfection and the emotions of your playing was refreshing. Joe Sapp....what can I say....you make me so proud to call you my friend. Rick Troyer..."you da man!!!" Folks, I have been to a gazillion steel guitar shows and jams and I can honestly say that "none" have ever been more fun and enjoyable than this one. I can't sit here and name all the names cause the bandwidth couldn't handle it, but I can't leave without saying how absolutely fantastic the back up band was. You made each and every performer sound and feel like a star and without you guys....well without you guys it just wouldn't be a show. And to the long hours you had to play ....it just blows my mind. I met some new friends and some old friends that I haven't seen in years....and I just didn't want it to ever end. Once again, a heartfelt thank you to Jim Thompson for caring enough about the steel guitar community to make it all possible.

God bless you all,

Ray and Debbie Walker

What can I say that has not already been said, it was a great show and Jim and Patty can add another success in the book, Ruby and I have been to every one of Jim's show and they are all first class. Wish we could of been there for the entire weekend but due to that four letter word called "WORK" we were not able to get there till Saturday morning.
We enjoyed seeing our old friends and made a couple new ones.
Thanks again Jim and Patty and the entire crew. We hope to see you at the BSG show July 19th here in Ashtabula, Oh

Ok,One more post before I close for the evening.
Let me thank "The Band" .At least the guitar players for now. What an outstanding job!Everyone seemed to be at there best .Carco Clave , always good but even better than 2007 . Outstanding tone and wonderful chops from his very vintage Strat. Lonnie Coots,as always outstanding. He and Mike Sigler always work great together but no matter who or what was thrown at him he covered it well . I especially appreciated his support on Sunday Morning . Not always an easy gig to wake up for but he was there and ready to help Phil Perry and the band out . Roger Hoard , What a monster player . If you're from this area ,Or a guitar player you probably have heard of Roger . For those of you who don't know him, he is one of the major influences that helped Brad Paisley become the monster player he is . That being said, what impressed me as much as his incredible talent was the fact that he played exactly what was needed to make the steel artist shine . No "over kill take the spot light away", just perfectly to showcase the steeler . That's not to say he didn't drop jaws cause he certainly did that . But only when it was called for .
That's all for now . Got to get some rest . More to come tomorrow . RT

Hey friends,

Well, as expected, another great show in Pa. Jim, you and Patty, and all the crew really know how to put together a great weekend of music, freinds and fun. As I have said before, this is truly one of my favorite shows.

Way too many great steelers to mention, but I absolutely enjoyed every one of them. Herby, Cookie, Carco, Sonny and right on through the list, great show from all. Mike Auldridge, WOW!!!!! Sigler, I hate your band had to leave early, but I sure enjoyed the opportunity to work with you again.

As for the band, once again it is an honor to work with and be part of this group. Linda, Lonnie, Roger and my favorite rhythm section partner, Alan Coldiron. Sure wish we didn't have to wait two years to do it again. (Jim T, that's a hint)

Thanks to all my friends, old and new, for making this such a memorable weekend.

See ya soon,
Jim

Another quick post before my first student this morning.
What a wonderful job Linda Torre did on the keys ! And what a weekend she and Jim Hartley put in . Talk about "No Relief in Sight " ...They must have played 10 hours each day . Great job by both ! And Linda's smile and always joyful personality make it a pleasure to work with .
Then there's Alan Coldiron . Upside down left handed ??? How screwed up is that ? No matter what it looks like it sounded great ! He and Jim glued the rhythm section down . Made it great to play to .
One more mention and then I got to go . Mike Davis ...Great job!Didn't play allot but when he did the rhythm section didn't miss a beat . A little drummer humor "ha ha" . I personally want to thank him for the outstanding job he did for me on my set . Top notch Mike . Mike works full time with Mr. Sigler at the Liberty Bell in Breman Ohio. If you get a chance stop in and give 'em a listen .
All for now . I'll be back . RT
