I am stumped.
I have a Prosonus firewire.for recording
It has 8 trs channels going out to mixer 1 to 8 XLR imputs.
I am using a Mackie DFX 12 mixer
Do I do the following.
Mackie main outs to which 1st and so on.
Rockton hush noice reduction
berringer tube amp
Furman EQ
Berringer headphone amp
DBX Stereo crossover
QSC 850 amp
Alto 1000.4 4 channel 1000 watt 250x4 amp 2 channels for monitors and 2 for subs.
Please lend some advise. It has been a long time and I forgot how,
Thanks David |

By Presonus Firewire do you mean the FirePod (AKA FP-10)? I'm confused by your statement that it has 8 channels going out to the mixer.
I hook my FirePod to the direct out for each channel of my mixer, which gives me a prefader signal for each of my sources, up to eight channels. In other words, I hook my mixer up as usual and just tap into line level outputs for each channel.
The DFX 12 doesn't have direct outs, so you can use channels 1&2 of the FirePod as inserts (preamp in/line out) and you could use the two aux sends on the DFX 12 (if available) to end up with four channels being recorded. Or you could hook your sources directly into the FirePod and bring a stereo signal to the mixer, using the Presonus as the mixer.
If you do have 8 channels of output on your Firewire box you could bring those signals into the line level inputs (TRS) of the mixer, using the mono (left) channel for the stereo channels.
If you can provide more details about your setup I might be able to give you a better answer. |

Yes it is a FirePod (AKA FP-10)
OK
Let's see if this works.
Yes I am using the 1 through 8 out puts on the FP-10 to 1 through 8 on the mixer via trs out on the FP-10 and XLR in on the Mixer using a snake made for this.
You say I should use the AUX send outs on the mixer not the mains out to got to which piece of equipment next? I want to use this LIVE on stage if this helps make it better explained. Sorry.
Do the mains out have to come direct from the mixer to the DBX Crossover then go to the amps? Or can I patch through all the other equipment 1st.
And if so in which order.
Does which order they are in even matter?
Rockton hush noice reduction
berringer tube amp
Furman EQ
Berringer headphone amp (Will just monitor the FP-10)
DBX Stereo crossover
QSC 850 amp Power the main 15's
Alto 1000.4 4 channel 1000 watt 250x4 amp 2 channels for 4-12" monitors and 2 channels for 1 or 2-18" subs.
Please advise. |

Let me start over.
1. I would go from the FirePod outputs to the line inputs on the DFX12 using straight TRS cables. The XLR inputs are for mic level inputs so the levels and impedances are not matched correctly for the line outs on the FirePod. If you use TRS out to XLR in be careful setting up the gain structure.
2. I would use the main outs for the front of house speakers and the aux outs for monitors. This allows for a separate mix for each.
3. Generally I would run from the output of the mixer to the noise gate, then the EQ, then to the crossover, then to the power amps.
4. Both the FirePod and the DFX12 have headphone outputs built-in, so I'm not sure why you need the headphone amp. From your description I'd guess you want to hook it to the mixer outs on the FirePod.
Given that your outboard units are all stereo, I would use one channel for the mains and one channel for the monitors.
For example:
Mics to FirePod in XLR; DI's to FirePod line inputs TRS
Firepod out 1-8 to mixer in 1-4, 5/6 L, 7/8 L, 9/10 L, 11/12 L
FirePod Cue Mix out to headphone amp.
Mixer Main L to noise gate left
Aux One out to noise gate right
noise gate left to EQ left
noise gate right to EQ right
EQ left to crossover L
crossover L high to QSC amp to main 15's
crossover L low to Alto amp to subs
EQ right to Alto amp to monitors
Does that make sense? |

Lynn
Good Name that was my Dad's middle name William Lynn as well as my Grandfather's.
Anyway.........
You said.......
I would use the main outs for the front of house speakers and the aux outs for monitors. This allows for a separate mix for each. Cool. Never would have thought of that!
I tell you what, let me get it all hooked up next week in the garage and give it a whirl.
Thanks very much Lynn.
If you ever need anything let me know. I will give it my all to help if I can..
