There is a post on the "Chet Board" by Paul Yandell, and it makes some interesting reading. He tells of setting Chet's guitar up, (tuning, amp set up etc) before each show, and how surprising that nothing changes except Chet later plays the guitar and then everything changes, even the tone.

It's the touch.
