With all these units producing thousands of sound combinations, after it's all said and done, how many presets do you use regularly?

Do we buy these great units for just 4 or 5 presets? Are some of these units just a status thing in that nice rack system?

There are a lot of bells and whistles involved, how many are really used?

I'm new at this and I'm just curious how the experienced players play and what they use.

Thanks, Tommy

Tommy,
Something to remember is that these units are not just for Steelers, I have a Profex and only use a couple of the patches though I bet there are loads of guys using different patches,ie., shredders,Heavy metal, country, rock, jazz, guitarists, hence the reason there are so many bells and whistles.
best regards
Billy

Mine sits on Lloyd's (I think 62 or 63 preset but could be 60. I'm 1050 miles from my PFII at the moment so can't look) most of the time but I've added 300msec delay too.

It's all in the variety and potential. Put a Boss sustain pedal and a sonic maximizer in front of it and all kinds of weird noises are possible.

When practicing or playing out I use 2 or 3 presets. PSG

When I play 6 string Strat I have about 6 I like.

When mixing down trax for a home studio recording maybe 5.

If I did nothing but play out, RV5 and DD6 are enough.

My old Digtech I had for 15 years worked ok but I left it on one setting except for a occasional distortion out burst.
It had a crummy chorus.
I now have Lexicon and I have super sounding chorus.
I switch settings more and really like the tap function that sets the echo in time with the music.
It has knobs to turn instead of buttons to click.
Nice sounding unit... It give's me that secret tone that all you guys are trying to get.. HA!
