States all have state trees, flowers, rocks, etc. Does your state have an official state instrument?

I work in Missouri and found out their official state instrument is the fiddle.

http://www.sos.mo.gov/symbols/symbols.asp?symbol=fiddle

I was somewhat aghast given St. Louis has been honored each year with the reward of 1000’s of steel guitarists and like-minded enthusiasts bolstering the Missouri economy (on an otherwise slow St. Louis weekend). The state instrument should have really been the Pedal Steel Guitar and in particular the Zumsteel made in Harrisonville, MO.

Certainly our beloved pedal steel guitar should be entitled to its rightful place as an official state instrument somewhere? Right?

Any Governors out there? If your state does not have an official instrument, lets hurry before the banjo butts in line.

If any State Legislation were to decree the PSG as the "official" state instrument it would no doubt be greeted with a jillion choruses of "What in hell is THAT?" Maybe some day - though not likely.

I believe the official State Instrument of Texas is the handgun, but I'd have to look it up to make sure.

Good one Herb. There is an official Texas Instrument

http://www.statesymbolsusa.org/Texas/GUITAR.html

Guitar

Next door in Louisiana the official musical instrument is the Cajun Accordion

http://www.statesymbolsusa.org/Louisiana/cajun_accordian.html

I don't see an official state instrument listed for Tennessee. Only fitting for the pedal steel guitar to have a spot there. Some other group is gonna muscle up to the trough and get their instrument listed eventually? Why not steel?

Up to the North is Arkansas with the Fiddle and then Missouri with the Fiddle also. How redundant is that? The Fiddlers are gonna take over if we don't watch our backsides!
