If you mean tone or voice, I don't think there is any difference. I have a D130F 4 ohm in a Pro Reverb, and a couple of 8 ohms I use with a Dual Showman Reverb. However, if you compare these with the same amp, the amp will sound different, because the 8 ohm will drive the amp a little harder to get the same volume. |

Match the speaker to the output impedance of the amp and (all other thing being relatively equal) there will be no difference.
When you are speaker shopping, you are NOT shopping for 4 or 8 ohm speakers of the same type - you are shopping for the speaker that will have the CORRECT ipedance AND provide the sound you want.
There are exceptions - but if you do not understand that simple guideline it
's best to stay far away from the exceptions (some of which can destroy the output stage of your amp). If your amp is designed for 8 ohms, stay with an 8 ohm speaker that can handle the amp's power. _________________ No chops, but great tone

Thanks David and Jim.I'm playing through an Evans AH (amp head) 200 with a 4 ohm JBL in a speaker cab. Evans puts 8 ohm speakers in their amps for fear of blowing a speaker if its a 4 ohm. However,Scott said if you use two speakers they need to be 8 ohm each.Using two 8 ohm speakers cuts it to 4 ohms. Scott also said this is ok but not to go below that. I'm wanting to add another speaker so I guess I need to trade my 4 ohm for an 8ohm.I didn't know if there's a tonal difference in the two,but I'm sure there is since even two identical speakers can sound a little different. _________________ Show Pro #26 & #83,BJS bars,Stereo Steel,Tommy Huff cabs loaded with JBL D130's, Wampler pedals,NV112,NV400, Steelers Choice Seats |
