I'm not new to steel but I don't own a pedaller and want to get in on some pedal action. I ran across this on ebay but I don't know alot about Sierra's or keyless guitars.

That would be a fine guitar for a player of any level, and reasonable at the buy it now price.

Dustin: The "Session" series of Sierra is a very nice steel. Very well engineered. The under carriage is like a piece of jewelry. I don't think it is a steal at $1,600 but reasonable for an instrument of this quality.

One man's opinion.

Good Luck Buddy,

Jim

That steel could last you a lifetime. Sierra's are very high quality instruments. They are often undervalued because many players don't like the non-traditional look of them. You can't buy a new S-10 with 5+5 of this quality for anything close to the $1600 BIN price.

I say go for it.

These guitars arte built as good as any out there, sound and play very good, every one that I have played so good I always wanted to buy it. Ken Fox vought Jennings Ward 's and sold his present guitar and kept the one he was goint to sell, it played and sounded so good, just listen to Joe Wright's.

Are they simple enough for someone new to the instrument?

Dustin,
That is a great guitar, they are very easy to set up. It will be all you will need for many years.
I sold the guitar to the ebay seller a few months back, he is a stand up guy and will treat you right. It is a very good buy at his BIN price, this Guitar lists for well over $4000 with the road case.
Let me know if I can be of further help.

Best Regards,

Dustin, generally speaking, there's nothing simple about pedal steel guitars. They can be very confounding contraptions, but the sound is so sweet, it's worth the trouble.

You have a top notch pedal steel guitar builder, the owner of this forum, and a few mighty fine players telling you this is a pretty good guitar. The only negative comment so far, was about the price, and even that's debatable. I'd say it sounds like a good deal.

I thought he was only commenting on the price given my beginner status.

Thank you everyone for your help.

It's very easy to remove pedals and knee levers temporarily on a Sierra Session, if 5+5 is too complex for you initially. I always recommend starting with at least 3 pedals and 3 levers. See my little article about how the E9th works:

I own a Sierra keyless 12 string similar to this one and I agree with all the positive comments so far. Learning to change strings on a keyless is not too hard and look at it this way: this guitar, with all the pedals and knees, will keep you busy pretty much forever. Sierra has a short video on changing strings on their site by the way.

Is (or was) the Session their "top of the line" model? I'm clueless about Sierra's too and was just wondering.

Forget it now. BIN is gone and I'm not getting in a bidding war.

The setup is easily changed. If it has 30 levers, who cares? Use the ones you need! These guitars are easily set up to any desired changes, sound pretty darn good and are built as well as anything out there. Pay the man.

The setup can indeed be changed around easily and quick.
the problem with some of the early Sierra models was that the pedal stops were in no way positive... in other words, they were unacceptably "mushy".
I am to understand that late Sierra models have seen that problem addressed, but I can't tell from the small pictures if that is one of them.

I had one of the early Sessions and the pedals worked well. I played it for over ten years as my main guitar!

Dustin,
It's a lot of guitar for the money, Sierras stay in tune, sound great, I played them for over 10 years, I personally had no problems with the pedal stops, or anything else with them..
If you need anything for it, Tom Baker is still there at Sierra to help you...This guitar will last you for as long as you want it to...Plus, it has the inter changeable pickups, I see it has 5&5, plenty of room to grow on it...Just my 2 cents.... if you haven't go check out there web sight........
