I followed a comment about their Madison fingertip to their site and I thought Johnny Cox playing one of their guitars -- a D-1084 -- was about as pretty a steel as I've ever heard.

Is anyone here playing a Jackson? Thanks!

I play a Jackson Blackjack through an old Sho-bud "Christmas tree" amp, a Hilton volume pedal, George L cables, and with just a bit of digital delay. I also use Brad Sarno's "Freeloader" (little red box) when I need a touch more (or less) "twang" without having to fool with the amp settings. I've been getting lots of positive comments on the great sound of this steel, both at live shows and in the studio as well.
In my humble opinion, the Jackson Blackjack is a wise choice for someone who is looking for a basic, well-made, reasonably priced, pro-quality single neck 3&4 instrument which offers great playability and superlative sound! I'm very very happy with this combination - it sure works for me!!

I've got the guitar that was Johnny's right now. I'm using it til my Pro IV is ready. If it's the beautiful light brown sunburst that you're talking about...it's an awesome guitar. I don't know where the serial # is on the guitar. I've been playing it on the road with Dierks Bentley for a few months now and it looks, plays and sounds just great. You might even be able to talk David or Harry out of this one when my Pro IV gets here! I don't know what they have planned for it. I also have a Black Jack that is ready. I just have to get my hind end out to Harry's to pick it up. Probably tomorrow I hope. All of their guitars are great and have their own characteristic sound. The Madison '63 is the sound that made us all want to play a Sho~Bud. The Shot Jackson Commemorative falls in between the Madison and the Pro IV in tone I think with the Pro IV having a little more modern tone. I opted for the Pro IV mainly for mechanical reasons. Meaning you can load up (knee levers, split tuning) the Pro IV a little more than the Madison '63. I think you can load up the Shot Jackson also.

I went to Harry's house right before the Dallas show and David was there also. I played all of the models they have and I think we all agreed on how each guitar stacked up in tone. They all have great tone......just depends on which tone you're looking for. The Black Jack and the Ultra Light sound great too. The Ultra only weighs something like 19 pounds. I got the Black Jack to use for fly dates and Opry spots and sessions when my Pro IV might be loaded on the truck.

But all of that being said....I still think the best thing about a Jackson steel guitar is the people who build and sell them! Very Happy

I'm listening to that youtube blurb of you playing the '63 over at Bobbe's. About 30 seconds in you play a killer slant into the 5 and someone shouts "that's the way to get it done.." Man that is c-o-r-r-e-c-t... -L-

I play an old Pro II, looking for a push/pull one of these days but I'll tell you what, that 63 rocks.

And so do you... -L-

Thanks Tom. I appreciate you saying that. And you're right...the Madison '63 does rock! It's kind of that tone I hear in my head. (Once all of those other voices stop talking!)
