This may be a silly question or a non-issue, but does it make a difference how I orientate a pickup when I put it into a guitar, i.e., which end of the pickup goes under the low strings or high strings? I've acquired a couple of John Hughey's TT pickups that were for sale, and I want to make sure they go in correctly. On one of the pickups the bottom of the magnets are visible under a strip of clear silicone, and the magnet that would fall under the 4th string or the 6th string (depending on the orientation of the pickup) has an "S" drawn on it. On the other pickup the bottom of the magnets is covered by black silicone. Both pickups have the wire leads going out in a similar direction. Does this matter at all?
Thanks,
Cliff |

Cliff... I am no expert on this, but I don't think it would really matter. Is the guitar single or double neck? If it's a double neck, the necks might
sound a little out of phase with both necks on. Doug Jernigan is the only player I have ever seen play a song on both necks at the same time. Someone with more knowledge than I have will probably chime in on your question. Or pick up the phone and give Jerry Wallace a call. I know he would have the answer you seek. |

Normally, most steels I have seen have a small hole drilled near the pickup mounting area for the pickup wires to go through the body. The end of the pickup containing the leads I always positioned nearest to the hole in the guitar body..... JMO, After installation, instead of trimming any excess lead wire off of the pickups (providing they have not already been trimmed), wrap them neatly and wire tie them securely to the underside of the guitar. If you decide to sell the pickups at a later date, having the leads the original length may improve their sale potential. |

I have found that I had to adjust them at an angle closer to the high strings to get the balance the way I liked it. Otherwise
I found that they wont peel paint off the walls properly.
