I have ordered and am awaiting delivery on a brand spanking new S10 C6. I plan on combining slants with my use of pedals. I'm wondering how common a practice this is. Will it really give me the best of both worlds?

On a 10-string steel, the 2-string slants aren't a problem (especially when there's a string in between). But the 3-string slants sure "separate the men from the boys", so to speak. They're a lot harder to do without them pitchy-whiny sounds. Whoa!

Some of us use them occasionally, but if you can't do 'em right, don't do 'em at all. In other words, it's one of those techniques that requires TONS of solitary practice before you try impressing anyone by using them.

Hello again,Edward...we discussed this before,so
You know where Iยดm at...I use pedal action in
combination w/ slants instead of half stops, very
good trick...I believe I use slants to merge pedal-
& non pedal-instruments,and because...oh,force of
habit.McUtsi

I don't know anything about the info you post about , but
in my mind I can't separate non ped from pedal , I use a
combination . like Ulric said "force of habit" .

I say whatever works. Although it is e9 - one great point of reference for this is Lloyd Green's work on the evening of E9 video he made with tommy white. Required viewing, if not required owning, for a e9 player.

Part of the fun of C6 pedal though is seeing how the pedals very logically follow some of the common bar slants you would be used to, but with the pedal you can get bigger chords.

I often use slants on pedal steel when playing slow songs, even when a knee lever could do the same thing. Sometimes a slant is actually easier and they do sound better if you do them right.

This topic is only slightly different. But I thought the discussion would be more interesting if the question were put into this form and the topic were posted where more pedal players could see it. So far so good. Very Happy
