Wow! What a picker. I just picked up a copy of the Bruce Springsteen 'Live In Dublin' DVD. I had no idea there would be a steel picker. Marty's Emmons sounds really sweet. I also enjoyed his Dobro playing. I have a great fondness for that genre of music and the addition of the steel is just icing on the cake. Thanks for the beautiful music, Marty.

Marty was the first steel player I watched up close 20 years ago when I was starting out. Literally I stood over his shoulder while he was performing thinking how am I ever going to get that good. Still wonderin'....... _________________ Dave Zirbel-

I like his playing too. What recordings is he on besides Springsteen's? |

In the early/mid-eighties, getting my first taste of Hollywood money ($14K a year) writing program-episode descriptions for TV GUIDE (I got yer "Three's Company" right here!), I was mesmerized by Marty at a McCabe's Guitar Shop Open House. I paid for and took four lessons. While I was waiting for the checking account to fill back up again (possibly an interim of years), Marty was running his studio full-time and playing on worthy sessions and tours.
By the time I was ready again, he was out of the teaching trade. Sigh...
Another sighting: I didn't know Chris Isaak had an interview/performance TV show (Biography Channel--not the Showtime sitcom) but about a month ago, I caught this--once only--at 4 a.m.--my prime time--and Marty was in guest Glen Campbell's band. _________________ "Gopher, Everett?" |
