No, you don't "need" IE 8, if you already practice "Safe Hex." I use Firefox 3.x and IE 7, operate as an XP Pro Power User and get along just fine.

In time IE 7 will stop receiving security updates, at which time you will need to upgrade the browser.

However, IE 8 is more secure than IE 7, which is more secure than any previous release.

Is IE8 compatible with most things? I don't mind migrating to the latest greatest if it is worthwhile, I'm just growing a bit weary of living on the "bleeding edge" of technology. I am still running XP Pro, but have moved up to Office 2007 and have been happy with it so far. Was considering IE8. Any horror stories about IE8 or is it somewhat safe to go to?

I don't know if IE 8 is compatible with Quickbooks yet. It tool a while for Intuit to roll out a patched version that allowed it to work with IE7.0.

IE 8 is not fully compatible with Spybot Search and Destroy, if you Immunize against web threats. For some reason the multitude of additions added to the browser's Restricted Sites Zone causes it to slow to a crawl. No previous version of IE had this problem.

Yes. Try rolling back by uninstalling IE 8, or use System Restore to go back to a point saved when IE 8 was installed.
