Update on Catfish Johnny. Johnny called me today and expects to get released from the V.A. Hospital in Gainesville tomorrow. He sounds pretty good, but a little weak from his 3 week, mostly ICU, stay. He still has some vision problems and will need physical therapy but they are going to send a therapist to his home.
Johnny wants to thank everyone for their concern and prayers that got him through this. Johnny's call made my day.
UPDATE: Johnny's wife, Pat, confirmed that he will be released today (Tuesday).

Catfish Johnny is back in the Hospital.
Pat (Johnny's wife) called me and told me Johnny is back in the V.A. Hospital in Gainesville. They went up this morning because they thought he had some kind of a cold as he was having what they thought was sinus drainage from one nostril. As it turns out the “sinus” drainage is spinal fluid leakage, again. They have put a spinal tap in him and will be testing the spinal fluid to see if it has been contaminated (if it can come out bacteria may be able to get in) and if it is they will have to put him on antibiotics. They are going to do more tests this evening and Pat says they will hopefully know more this evening. It looks like it will take more surgery to close the leakage.
Keep Johnny in your prayers, there is concern about him being able to withstand another surgery. |

Having some early visitors for the weekend. So in the effort to be a good host I will have to miss the party tomorrow. All my best to the winter pickers. Look forward to seeing you after the summer. Play well. And send my best to Johnny.

Jack D, oh no Who will I pick on?
I sure hope Ernie shows up
On the serious side, I hope that Johnny comes through this and heals completely. He's one tough ole bird, but the last two years have been rough on him and his family. We'll be keeping him in our prayers.
See ya this afternoon

This was the last chance I had to get Freds licks. Something to practice during the summer. Any way, you can pick on Ernie. Get a report on the latest entry to his stable of guitars. _________________ There is no such thing as too many steels!!

Jack, it was like you were there last night. Several played your songs since you weren't there
Ernie's new Weenik is a keeper. The Weenik guitar and the Nashville 1000 he had last night is a perfect combination. It sounded good with that amp, or at least the way it was set.
Thanks to everyone for another great jam. Special thanks to Brian Ostrom, from Canada, for visiting and picking. Brian did an excellent job. Sadly, Fred Thompson (Maine), George O'Neil (upstate NY), Jimmy Steelman and (I think) Andy Young (Canada) will be leaving later this month and going back where it's still cold and snowy (ha ha).
Nothing new to report on Catfish Johnny, it's basically a "wait and see" right now. They have him lying on his back and will monitor him for a couple of days to see if the spinal fluid leakage will stop. If not, they will probably have to do surgery.
Tom Murphy was among the missing again this month as he is still recovering from his recent bout with shingles. The shingles are gone but he's still having issues. |

Update on Catfish Johnny. He will be moved from the V.A. Hospital in Gainesville to the University of Florida, Shands Hospital, Sunday and will have surgery on Monday for the spinal fluid leakage at the location of the first brain tumor surgery.
A personal note, I'm glad he is finally being moved from the V.A. to Shands for treatment. |
