I have been using these for a few years now and find them ideal for lap steels. They were made to order for travel guitars built at www.shapelywood.com.
Richard the boss is very helpfull and you can contact him through his website, he'll quote you a price

I"m always a sucker for a cool gig bag....I used to really love Ritter, but they don't seem to make them for ukulele anymore. I have to contact these guys, because it looks perfect as I carry a steel and an Ovation ukulele, and it looks like it would do nicely!! |

That's great! Look like they are well-padded, plus the pockets can actually hold stuff. I have a TKL gig bag that is made for lap steel, but it doesn't have enough padding (IMO) and has a pocket that can fit a bar and some picks, but that's it. Thanks for the link. _________________ Peter

I too am a sucker for a new/improved gigbag. I'm also a sucker for foldable, lightweight, small instrument stands.
Anyway, Kevin, what is ballpark price on a gigbag like the one you pictured? _________________ Gerald Ross

Kevin, if you would be so kind as to take a measurement of the instrument compartment, I sure would appreciate it.
I, too, love the Ritter ukulele bag, but only my short scale steel and 1 24" scale steel will fit into the bag (not together, of course). _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links |

Hi Mike, Inside length 31" These bags were designed to protect small acoustic instruments and the padding therefore is more that adequate. They are an extremely practical solution to our problems and I have been delighted with the strength of these bags, good strong zips, shoulder or carry straps, I have road tested these for over two years and never had any damage to the laps nor suffered any damage to the bags, they are tough little monkeys. Richard is a friend of mine who is also helping develop a travel acoustic/electric lap, that naturally also fits nicely into the bag, more news on this later. Please use the contact details on his website to get a price as he has probably never shipped to US before. You will not be dissapointed, i am merely passing on this find to members of the forum who like me have struggled to to find a suitable solution, NOW CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE COME UP WITH A GOOD PURPOSE BUILT LAP STEEL STAND !!! |

Richard quoted me $25 for the bag, but $40 for shipping. He said as a result of this thread, he's looking into more economical ways to ship to the US.
He also said that the double case was an accident; he had told the case manufacturer to be sure that it accommodated the two sizes of guitar that Richard sells, which was interpreted as holding two guitars simultaneously. The cost of returning them was too high, so he's just been using the doubles. There won't be another batch of doubles, I'm sure, if he can help it.
If anyone is interested, ordering together will decrease international shipping costs, then the cost to send them around the states will be lower.
