I have a 1975 Peavey Session 400 amp. This amp has a single 4 ohm 15" speaker in it. Is it okay to run an 8 ohm speaker in the Session 400? Will an 8 ohm Altec 418B work well in this amp? Can the Altec handle the Session 400's power? Anyone ever heard a Session 400 with an Altec 418B?
Thanks,
Cliff |

Cliff,
I had a Session 400 with an 8 ohm JBL K130 in it and it worked great. You might notice a slight decrease in power, but probably not enough to notice.
I've never tried the Altec so I can't help you with that. |

Thanks, Bob. It had a 4 ohm K130 (Peavey labeled JBL), but that one finally blew. I guess if the Altec is as strong as the JBL it would work.
Thanks,

Cliff, Send that JBL to Woody Woodel, and he will recone it, and you are good for another 25 years. Best speaker going, in my honest opinion.
You may find the Alec nice and crisp in the bass department, but a touch more middy than the k130. But Altecs are great speakers, too. YMMV |

I don't think I would put the Altec in there, if you are using it on stage at loud volume levels. Even at 8 ohms, I think the Session 400 would have enough power to blow it. I'd put an E130 or a Black Widow in there. |
