Nice playing job............great video in all.
Such a tragedy to lose such a talented younger person. We've all lost with her unfortunate passing. |

Nice tone, mood, and vibe on that, James. I've also been enjoying "Albatross" for a while now.
Am I right in understanding that you built that "National"? |

Yes Kevin, I built that National Replica in three weeks, right now I'm building a National New Yorker Replica, its taking a bit longer because it will be fitted with Palm Levers, which I also make myself. I only do these things for my own enjoyment, not for sale, there are some very good Luthiers here on the Forum.

That looks beautiful so far. I look forward to hearing it in your future postings.
Also, I'm curious about your signal path when recording-- some nice sounds from your steels. |

Kevin,
I used to use a USB Interface to record by direct injection from the Steel to the computer, but I felt too much was lost by this method.
Shown in the photo below is the complete signal path I use now. The Guitar plugged into my Vox Valvetronix AD15, although the Vox has a lot of built in effects, I don't use them for recording,I don't use any effects while recording, all effects are added in final Mixdown. A Zoom H2 you see sitting about 12 inches in front of the Amp, records the output in Stereo, with a 4Gig card inside, it will record as many takes as I wish. The H2 has a very faithful Digital reproduction of what you give it from the Amp.
I load my Backing Track into Adobe Audition 2 and listen to the playback of that through Headphones while playing the steel parts into the Zoom H2. When I think I have enough good tracks recorded in the H2, I download them into Audition 2 and line them up with the Backing Track and add any effects I think suitable, then do a Mixdown of all tracks and effects to a Stereo Track and I can choose Wave or Mp3 for that.
This might sound a bit complicated but in reality is very easy to do and I enjoy myself, which is the main thing in my mind. None of these things mentioned cost a lot of money, I paid £120 for the Zoom H2 Digital Recorder, £55 for the Vox Amp and made the Lap Steel myself. The Vox Valvetronix has an astonishing output for 15 Watt, as others here on the Forum will tell you, If I see a bigger one at the right price, I will have it.
So here is the Signal Path.
