What are the proper gauges for the low C and F and A strings? For B6th (which I play) it would be low B, E and G#. Thanks, Don |

No numbers, but a hint.
Notice that the high E is half the gauge number of the next lower E, which S/B half the gauge number of the next lower E.
Same rule of thumb will get you the B, and G# etc values.
You won't have an easy time finding a 112 gauge, so you may have to make do with a 90. |

These are what I try to use:
A 0.042
F 0.054
C 0.070
G# 0.044
E 0.056
B 0.074
Anything within 0.002 of these will work okay. Unfortunately most B6 sets try to give you the same as they use for C6, but you need something slightly heavier than that for B6. These are for 24" or 24 1/4" scale length. Longer necks can use slightly smaller gauges and get a little more sustain. These are for pedal steel and are gauged for the highest raise. Non-pedal can use something a little thicker. |

Lower pitches don't seem to be quite at critical as plain strings. For non-pedal I would suggest about the same as above, with just slight exceptions. Like I said, not really that critical!
A = .044w
G# = .046w
F = .054w
E = .056w
C = .072w
B = .074w _________________ <marquee> Go~Daddy~Go, (No), Go, It's your Break Time</marquee> L8R, jb

I play Bb6th with standard C6th strings, specifically for the "stringier", less shiny sound. I probably should cram a 74 on there though, I don't boowah cleanly.... |

Personally I find the 10th string in C6 tuning to be so slack that I never use it. I've often considered putting a high string on it to use as a drone like a banjo 5th string. |

When Bobby Bowman set up my Emmons PP U-12, he put for the last 3 strings .046, .058, .079 It really adds some beef. I changed the last to a .076 due to availabilty. I love the way it sounds.. |
