hi fellow lap steelers,
i am looking for your help in purchasing a new volume pedal. i recently purchased a new stand from don at bsg steel guitars for my 6-string, which I love, and now really want to sing/play out while standing up using the stand. the problem is, using my ernie ball volume pedal, i feel like i have a peg leg and lose my balance pretty easily. do any of you know of a non-weight-bearing volume pedal, or one that's activated by another mechanism or body part other than the foot? or is there one simply lower to the ground so that you don't have to put all your weight in one leg?
thanks,
kristina |

Rather than a volume pedal, use the volume knob on your guitar. You can stand and play with no lopsided feeling that way. ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) _________________ Brad’s Page of Steel

Brad's right. That's what I've ended up doing.
When you're on stage you need to have your feet level for hot dance moves etc.
If you have your foot on a VP, you're essentially standing on the other foot and that can be tiring.
Then if you take your foot off, there's always the danger you'll tap it and cut off your sound at a crucial moment.
I still use one in the studio, but in a live situation I just plug the guitar right into the amp.
But if you absolutely have to have a VP - Hilton makes a slimline model.
Hiltons are the best VPs available imo.
They don't use pots so they're noise free and they don't color your tone at all.
They ain't cheap, but you get what you pay for . . _________________

I'm sure a Thigh Master could be modded to include a volume control! Add some strange interest to the show too! Too much coffee today! |

Carco Clave was using an ages olde DeArmond foot volume pedal..... I had one when I was but a mere youth.
It has a geared shaft or whatever you might call it....
and the thingie inside rolls up and down that SHAFT.
Seemed to work well.........and did the job. |

I still have the DeArmond pedal, since '49. It eats pots though, but built solid enough to run over with a truck. |

Mine had that brand new invention......
called a "TREMELO".............
Could never set the dial where it would "TREM" at the proper rate for the song being played. Since the dial was clear down on the floor at the very front of the pedal, it was near impossible to adjust the durn thing while playing.
Needless to say, my BIGSBY pedal solved any and all problems for me. |
