Keith Bilbrey, one of the great WSM/AM announcers and Grand Ole Opry announcer, after serving 34 yrs with WSM, was relieved of his duties yesterday afternoon from the radio station that he has loved his entire life. This also includes being the announcer on The Grand Ole Opry. The station assured him that he had done nothing to provoke this, it was that they are doing away with the midday show..it will be strictly voice tracked.

Ive signed the list and will forward this link to all I know, Theres an old saying that says something like those that forget the PAST are doomed to be forgotten. Country Music was built on the Generations of Great Pickers and Players that came before, they wore cowboy hats because most of them were Farmers, They Wore boots because they were truck Drivers, They didnt put on a big ole hat and some snakeskin boots to Impress anyone, and the Music they played was about there Lives, Loves and Memories. Someone has forgotten to remind these folks that COUNTRY MUSIC IS AND ALWAYS WILL BE, Steel Guitars, Fiddles, Acoustic Guitars, and men and women who lived the Hard Scrabble life they sing about. If the Opry Goes its a SIN against the Past and the People who built this Business called Country Music, Johnny Cash, Conway Twitty, Hank, Willie, Waylon and Loretta, Buck, Merle, Bob Wills and many more Stars and Studio folks who crafted with love the music from "Instruments" they will Loom large as the Inventors, The Creators, The Legends of Country and to move the OPRY is to Move the very well of these peoples Souls. The Mother Church BELONG's in Nashville Tennessee and nowhere else.

Bob,
I 've signed the petition and I have made some comment on another thread concerning this matter, I remember several years ago,Gaylord tried to do a format change and get rid of some key people(i.e.) Eddie Stubbs.People like Eddie and Keith are country music. These people have given their lives to promote and keep the country in country. I hope and pray this petition works. Tommy Mad

I can't tolerate what is going on with our great county in general. There is no respect or graditude for those who have accomplished anything in the past anymore...and this is just another example: Its all about CHANGE..Change is fine, but lets show some respect to those who have fought to get us to where we are today. This is a trend that has taken over in everything...this "change" is taking us backwards fast.
