I met a man back in the 1960's that told me he wrote the song A fool such as I. Hank Snow had already
recorded it then. His name was Bill Trader from
Charlotte, NC and he was selling automotive equip.
He had a record of his on an old 33 1/3 that he played for me. His singing was not good.
Does anyone around Charlotte, NC. remember him? |

Bama Charlie : I agree with you whole-heartedly on the better version being sang by one of my favorite Canadian performers of yesterday year. Next to Hank's singing, another of my best liked Inatrumentals of this tune is played by Buck Grantham.. This is what I call " Good Country Music ". Amen..Bernie.
P.S. The steel guitar version by Buck can be found on Chas. Tilley's Web Site . Go and listen to it..O.K ?? _________________ 2007 Zum S-10; 1967 Sho-Bud [ D-10 ]; 85 S-10 Sierra; 1953 Multi-Kord [ 6 String- 4 pedals ] A Sho-Bro six String Resonator Guitar; Nashville 112 Amp; hilton Vol. Pedal |

Bernie,Mr. Snow was my hero,When I was ten I heard I'm Moving On,That's the moment I KNEW I HAD to be a picker,I was a little country boy in rural Ga.we only had a little radio,no TV back then,Around that time got to see him at the Rylander theater in the little town of Americus Ga.that was almost sixty years ago, over the years have played on many shows and seen many big stars,Have forgotton most of them, but I remember that one like it was yesterday. Many years later was playing in a band that opened for Hank, needless to say that was great. The 40's and 50's were the GOLDEN YEARS of country music so glad we have those times saved on records, tapes and CD'S DYKBC. _________________ Hard headed, opinionated old geezer. BAMA CHARLIE. Yep, it was Bill Trader. I play Steel on one of his demo's which included "Fool Such As I" in late 1950 or 1951. Roy Lear was on Bass ,Dewwy Price on guitar, Clyde Costner lead guitar and me with my Rickenbacker. We put it on the old Disc with a Presto recorder in Simpson's studio Charlotte NC.Both Price and Lear were singers that day.I think Lear did that one.I have a copy around here somewhere.
Some other friends of mine had also recorded the tune in 46??

Charlie,I'm telling on myself here. I am 50 years of age and I remember the Golden Years of Country music,
Hank (Snow & Williams), Lefty, Faron and Ray, I prefer that over what has come out today. Tommy |
