Great piece on Paul Bigsby on NPR this weekend. And some pics and sound bytes on the website. Interesting that he was a motorcycle enthusiast and involved with the Crocker, a vintage motorcycle comparable to a Bigsby instrument in rarity, value and desirability.

Hi Peter, on Bobbe'd advice, I got the great Bigsby book from Amazon and it's worth every penny. I was 17 years old and drove to Phlox street and met one of the most interesting characters I ever met. Paul Bigsby was not only a brilliant craftsman but a wealth of knowledge in a variety of fields. But I loved his stories of the music business and the pickers he had built instruments for. Being a Speedy West fan at the time, I had also heard the likes of Bobby Black, Wayne Burdick and Norm Hamlet, whom I became acquainted and enjoyed some time before he became the star muscian he is today. I have even sat behind his Bigsby a few time before I decided to tackle this Four-legged contraption. I once ordered a part from Bigsby and he not only sent it to me, but the price was only ten dollars and it was not sent COD. He just used the Honor system and I respected it by remitting post haste. I still have the invoice yet as a momento. Great post.
