How much are they going to be? What gauges will they be strung with? What scale length will this be? Geez, we waited long enough for this! Very Happy

I, personally, do not care for the look of it.

But... I will not throw stones at it because I think its looks may actually be a catalyst that will create interest with younger players. And if there's one thing we need in the world of steel, it's younger players to carry the torch. Very Happy

Good to hear, Mike.

We have had about three or four threads about this guitar since it was first debuted at NAMM I believe in January of '08. And I think the body shape is great. People have rigged up lap steels for stand-up playing for years, and there have been instruments before this designed to do the job, like the Melobar. This Power Slide is ergonomically designed for being comfortable to play standing.

I've been waiting for this. I play a lot of dobro standing, with a strap, and do a lot of vocals.

I need a stand-up 6 string lap steel for certain things, but the budget is pretty tight around here these days, and I can't afford to lay out the dough right now for an instrument like Jason Dumont's Lap King like Jerry Douglas occasionally plays standing up, or an MSA Super Slide that can be set up for standing.

So if the pickup on the Power Slide is pretty good, and the rest of the parts are respectable, and will hold up, then this thing looks like a pretty good deal.

I'd love to try one of these. The shape apparently makes it easy to play standing up with a special y-shaped strap. And with an MSRP of only $249, maybe it'll street for $200, that's a heck of a deal on a glitzy looking lap steel!

Mike Brown, will Peavey make an 8-string model perhaps?

Abe's of Maine is showing them for 200 bucks:

http://tinyurl.com/azu8ks

However, it is showing the item as being "back ordered."

In one of the earlier threads, Bobbe Seymour posted that he was speaking with Peavey about making an 8-string model. Maybe he and/or Mike can elaborate on the progress regarding that idea.

There is a reason for the radical shape. We call the body contact portion of the Powerslide the "bellyhook", which conforms to the human "belly" area without slipping or pulling to the left when in the standing position. This IS a guitar that you would play standing up. There is a three-point strap that is included with the guitar for the standing position as well.

Yes, the body shape is radical and the idea was to appeal to the younger player. However, there are other reasons for the various contours of the body shape. Check the Powerslide out this weekend at the Texas Steel Guitar Jamboree in the Carter Booth and see for yourself.

Here are the pertinant specs that we frequently receive on our instruments;
Scale-24 3/4"
Nut Width-2 1/8"
Bridge width-2 1/2"
String Spacing- 12/32"

We string these instruments with "12's"(12-56)

I have been looking for a stand up lap steel or ways to adapt one that is economical. I am mainly a guitar player but want to get back into some steel playing (gave up the pedal steel).

I can handle the radical styling, even though I am not a young targeted buyer. If the quality is there for that price it is a no brainer for me.

I also like the way the second control knob pans from dual to single coil too. That sounds like a great feature to go between a country sound or a blues or rock tone.
At that price I am guessing it comes from China so I would not buy one unless I check it out first. Could be some instrument to instrument differences.

Played on in the Carter Room in Dallas. With a little hotter pickup she'd be a dam nice lap. Played great was just a little thin in the tone department. It's lightweight and will fit in the over head compartment.

This guitar has to be one of Peavey's best kept secrets.
I have asked several Peavey dealers about this guitar and all I get is a "deer in the headlights" look. Whoa!

Bob,
From what I gather, Peavey has no intentions to make an 8 stringer.
Their market target are the slide players in rock bands.

As I posted earlier, there was talk last year that Bobbe Seymour was working with Peavey on a possible 8 string version.

Maybe they need to see how the 6 string version "flies" before plunging into an 8 string model.
