Slim Dusty was very popular in Australia and Britain, but you don't hear much about him nowadays.
His great hit, "A Pub With No Beer", must go down as one of the most melancholy and sad songs of all time, and, once heard, is fixed in your memory for life. 
Anyone out there who met him or played with him ? |

Hi Alan ,
I was fortunate enough to have worked with him .
I was in his band from 1983 to 1989 . We toured
constantly and i got to see every corner of Australia and got paid for it . I also recorded with
him right up to his last cd , which was as i remember
his 103rd release for EMI records . On a sad note
i was standing behind the band at the opry watching
Tommy White play when a friend of mine told me that
he had just passed away. he was given the honour of
a state funeral by the Australian government .
we all miss him . |

Yes,I've heard of Slim Dusty.One of my coworkers had some friends in Australia and they sent him a couple of cassettes of him,which in turn he gave one to me.I have it somewhere;but I can't put my finger on it.Two of the tunes on it were"Tie Me Kangaroo Down" and "Waltzing Matilda".

Who in Australia has not heard of Slim? Our most iconic, best-loved, most durable, prolific country music performer who wrote songs which were uniquely Australian, sang about Australia and its people and became one of the foundations of Australian country music.
A genuine man of the people who remained humble and lived an honest life without pretence or pretentiousness. A true legend, and greatly missed.

| He performs with the Australian children's group the Wiggles on my son's DVDs. I didn't know much about him prior to seeing these shows, but I got the sense that he was a national treasure. |

| Well said Michel and Ned,Slim was an icon,and a national treasure he was, and is still missed very much. Many of his songs have become become part of Australian folk lore. He will never be forgotten. |
