This was on the Craig's list here in Appleton Wisconsin today. Are these going for this much? This could be a really slow sell in this area.

I bought one off the forum a few years ago for $600. I sold it in '04 for $1000 (actually traded it for a guitar of equal value). It was a good steel, kind of wish I still had it, but it was a little awkward to play IMO.
Lee Jeffriess plays one of these, I think.

| A friend bought one a few years ago for 600 bucks. It was in very nice condition, and heavy as hell. The case for it didn't seem stout enough for that guitar, and I did some fixing on it. |

I agree with Rick's $1500 "max" ....but I would pay $1800, if need be, were I gigging again at good wages. I had / played a C500 (C518 ... 10-8-8 version) for about 15 years. Actually learned Steel on it; BR6 in JB's Harrys studio and homework on the C518. I liked it ALLOT ...even after acquiring a number of other non-pedal steels to compare it to. I would actually prefer it over a B6 for variety gigs, due to the 3 necks and stable platform. The magnets material on that generation of horsehoe pickups charge stronger than earlier generations. A Real Time Analyzer reveals their tone with a bit of an also-audibly-noticeable bump in the low-mid range, ....the range often called "throaty", but is otherwise quite similar to the previous generations smile-like RTA's bar graph. It's heavy, and the original gray "ostrich" tolex case held up very well, although it's of the common thinner plywood inner construction not unlike multi-neck Fenders rather than heavier plywood common to pedal steel guitar cases. I quit playing out regularly in 2003; Sold the C518 two years ago for $1200 when one of my Sons went through a particularly challenging med condition. The Buyer thought he got a good deal and I thought so too. So did Son Dean  !
I have another one packed away in cleaned-up water-damaged basket-case condition, that I will rebuild one day and surely be equally happy with it (probably when I get so old I require driving up to it in an electric get-around chair scooter .....if that project lays aside like too many do in my "retirement plan"  ). Caveat: It's original case is trashed and requires a belt to hold it closed; But it looks like that's because of the water damage too and not because it wasn't hefty enough.

Lee got one right after his Bigsby got ripped off years ago, he refers to it as the "Mobile Home" model. I guess he still plays it.

I have a few pictures of David Keli'i playing that model T-8 courtesy of Ken Ufton, but they are on my old computer. They were taken from the Keli'i session for his solo album on Maple.
This is one track---the harmonic tour de force, "Whispering Lullaby". He does sound great on that Rick console, but of course it's David Keli'i and he always sounds great to me.
